Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Jafad Zarif has announced that the Non-Alignment Movement will continue to support the principles of sovereignty and sovereign equality of states, territorial integrity, and non-intervention in the internal affairs of any country.

The announcement was made by the Head of Iran's Foreign Ministry while in New York, for a thematic discussion on the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations. During his address Zarif gave high praise to the UN's achievements in fields such as decolonization; apartheid; the Middle East situation, including the issue of Palestine; the maintenance of  international peace and security, disarmament, and allied issues.

Speaking on behalf of the Non-Alignment Movement (NAM), Mohammed Zarif said that NAM members have traditionally adhered to the UN Charter and international law for the maintenance of peace. Zarif also emphasized the need to stick to Chapter 7 of the UN Charter – on using force in case of threat to international security. In cases where this agreement goes unobserved, Zarif called for offenders to be punished by the UN and the International Court of Justice.

According to Iran.ru, Mohammed Zarif also called upon all UN member nations to play their part in ensuring peace, developing partnership and dialogue between civilizations, and mutual respect, rather than extremism and violence.
