Cuba obtains yet another  historic victory at the United Nations General Assembly,  perhaps, the greatest one in the course of  23 years, in Cuba's just demand for an immediate cessation of the criminal economic and commercial blockade that the United States imposed since 1961. If American far right fails to reverse the trend, the most important condition to turn this huge possibility into reality is the existence of the favorable disposition inside the US Department of State at the time one registers to vote on the draft resolution condemning the embargo. Although the trend for the US is to vote against the resolution and the lift of the blockade.

Moreover, since nothing is improvised in such an epic meeting of world nations,  we are able to assume that Israel, a state created by the US after the Second World War and which follows solely Washington's policies, also joins the abstention.

Since 1992, in the midst of the unipolar world,  that was created after the collapse of the socialist bloc in Eastern Europe between 1989 and 1991, the Cuban foreign policy has won 23 consecutive victories at the UN. One reason is that the diplomacy of the first socialist country in Latin America since the twentieth century has shown, by force of argument, the genocidal nature of the measure and its outer scope.

Everything is in the hands of President Barack Obama. Inside the State Department there is an alignment with the Department of Defense proposing to keep a tough stance in the UN Assembly. Then the first black President of the United States, who has asked Congress to repeal the economic and trade  "embargo" has the enormous challenge to defeat the trends that insist on maintaining a tough strategy that has failed, as acknowledged by the head of the White House on December 17, when the beginning of a process of normalization of bilateral relations was announced from Havana and Washington.

But when there are cracks in the US policy and far right politicians seek to harden towards the world, Cuba expresses cohesion and firm adherence to its position. Although the blockade has caused economic damage of nearly $900 billion and has developed a systematic subversive campaign against the Socialist government, Cuba never abandoned its struggle for Latin American integration, for world peace and for equality between states.

It has never been achieved to spread doubt, created and fed from the same international right, since the beginning of the process of normalization of relations between Cuba and the US — on the position of the socialist state towards the world and Latin America. President Raul Castro, receiving Pope Francis, ratified the fact that irrefutable historical tradition has been shown for 55 years now: identity with the Latin American peoples, commitment to emancipator deeds, integration of the states of the “Global South” and radical critique of oppressive and exploiting character of capitalism as a system.

The UN General Assembly takes place a few days after the Pope visits Cuba and the United States. In Cuba, the leader of the Catholic church was received by the authorities and the people of the Great of Antilles with respect and optimism, not only because he played first level role in the secret talks that took place between the two countries 18 months before the December 2014, but by the recognized  tradition of Cuban hospitality.

Cuban-US relations can become normalized only if the blockade is lifted and the military base in Guantanamo is returned to the Great of Antilles, while Cuba's sovereignty is fully respected.

Pretending to achieve the goal of ending the Cuban revolution by other means already well known for over half a century, will only produce new defeats for the most powerful imperialism that humanity has ever known, as Fidel Castro has repeatedly said.
